Examinations

The Conservation Center looks forward to the opportunity to assist clients, whether private individuals or institutional collections, and on projects of all types, large or small. While initial estimates can be provided in some instances from images submitted by email, our normal procedure is to have works brought or shipped to The Center for assessment by the Head Conservators of each department.

The examination process is undertaken with no obligation to proceed with treatment. The conservators’ assessments result in a written condition report and treatment proposal, which includes all relevant pricing for the client to review. Most reports  are made available within 7 business days, and can be sent by mail, email or fax based upon the client’s preference. Conservation treatment is undertaken only with the client’s signed authorization to proceed. A one-half pre-payment is required for all projects.

Our Shipping & Installation Department is happy to work with our clients to assist with transportation arrangements to or from The Center as necessary. If you are considering shipping pieces to The Center, please visit our Safe Packing & Shipping page to access packing and shipping recommendations.
