The Center's New Conservation Laboratory Designed by Studio Gang Architects

One of the most exciting new additions in our current location is our full-floor conservation laboratory. Designed by Studio Gang Architects, the layout of the space is arranged to enhance our operations; the high ceilings, terrazzo floors, and larger windows that flood the space with natural light are all details that make up the calm and open studio environment. MacArthur "Genius" award recipient, Jeanne Gang, gave positive feedback about the building: "High ceilings and arched windows arrayed across the space make this a great studio for the important restoration work of The Conservation Center. Our work focused on creating functional and user-friendly individual workspaces for conservators while enhancing architectural qualities of the interior."

The large open space was a blank canvas for Jeanne Gang's team to integrate their unique style and talent together. The conservators were able to incorporate their requirements and requests into the design process, with Margaret Cavenagh, Senior Managing Architect, and Lindsey Moyer, Design Team Member, of Studio Gang Architects and the results are outstanding.

Observers are highly impressed by the space and how it was designed. We were able to utilize the overall structure of the building and take advantage of interior architectural details to create an efficient and welcoming workspace. Buzz Ruttenberg, an Advisory Board member, said "The added light and high tech improvements will facilitate a better work environment. The first quality workmanship of The Center will only be enhanced by the new facility."

We welcome you to come see first hand and give us your feedback about the space!
