The exciting fall art season is upon us and The Conservation Center is ready to participate once again in the annual international art fair, EXPO CHICAGO! Now in its fourth year, EXPO CHICAGO is a four-day event (September 16–20) taking place at historic Navy Pier, featuring more than 140 of the world’s leading art galleries from 16 countries. This fair draws visitors from all over and continues to demonstrate Chicago as an important destination in the art world. As we have for the past three years, The Center is proud to serve as EXPO CHICAGO’s exclusive art conservation and custom framing provider. Our conservators will also be on-call and on-site to assist dealers and galleries whose pieces have sustained damage related to transportation and handling.
The Conservation Center is pleased to have been named “Best Art Restorer” in the August 2015 issue of Chicago Magazine! The “Best of Chicago” is an annual, exhaustively researched list compiled by Chicago’s editors and contributors. This year, 72 superlative services, shops, and activities in the Chicago area—in addition to 46 Readers' Choice award winners voted on by Chicago readers on chicagomag.com—were published. The Conservation Center was honored with a “Best of” within the Art Services category.
The Conservation Center team was on call during EXPO CHICAGO weekend (September 19-23) to assist dealers with unexpected art or framing emergencies during the fair. Our educational booth this year--which featured a magnificent Ellsworth Kelly work on paper and an eye-catching James Rosenquist painting, both generously lent to us by private collectors--brought in many of our old friends along with new audiences. See you next year, EXPO CHICAGO!
Three decades of art restoration and preservation for clients and collections around the country is a pretty big deal, so we’ve taken this opportunity to have our distinguished Advisory Board members and founder say a few kind words about The Conservation Center and why they’re proud to be involved with us.
One of the most exciting new additions in our current location is our full-floor conservation laboratory. Designed by Studio Gang Architects, the layout of the space is arranged to enhance our operations; the high ceilings, terrazzo floors, and larger windows that flood the space with natural light are all details that make up the calm and open studio environment.
Over the past 29 years The Conservation Center has developed a national reputation as the ‘go to’ place for the rescue of some of the nation’s finest artworks and artifacts from fire and floods, as well as the restoration of cherished personal heirlooms. As of July, The Conservation Center has a space to match the breadth of their work: the company has recently moved into a newly designed, state-of-the-art 25,000 square foot space in Chicago’s upcoming arts district.
Now that our company move is completed, the administrative staff at The Center has been busy taking care of all the important details to ensure our business continues to run smoothly. Fortunately, we have moved into a spacious environment where we can better coordinate our daily tasks and client pick up and drop offs.
